With all the pressure on schools to meet state and federal academic standards, it may be difficult to spend time discussing alcohol and other drug use. Yet educators know that a student’s exposure to alcohol and other drugs can have a detrimental effect on his or her ability to succeed.
There are many alcohol education resources available for educators that can be part of their science and health curricula. (See Resources below.) In addition, prevention professionals in communities throughout Washington can provide educational opportunities for students, educators, and parents/caregivers. Find one in your area at www.StartTalkingNow.org.
If you or someone you know is struggling with substance use, call the Recovery Helpline at 1-866-789-1511.
